  • Native Watercraft Slayer Propel 13 Honest review

Just one video in a series I will be doing talking about my SP13. I truly love and enjoy this boat, so this is my constructive criticism. Not once have I regretted purchasing this kayak.

I love this kayak too but another one was a bit lighter & easier for me to load/unload
using my current roofrack & vehicle combination.

Thanks for the well-thought-out review. I passed the video link onto Native management.

Turbulence from the propeller? I have a transducer (combination downward and sideways looking fish finder/transducer on my bass boat. If that 42 lb. thrust electric trolling motor doesn't produce turbulence why would a foot powered trolling motor be an issue?

You clearly know more than me on that issue and I'm not afraid to admit it.....I do reckon that with the all the different options of transducer sizes....a one solution fits all is hard to come by.

A guy I met at some North Carolina tournaments provided me with this modification he made to his slayer drive.

Has anybody tried those rear boat mounts to put the transducer back by the rudder? Seems like it would cause less drag back there. But would only show fish that you passed.

For my type of fishing....that seems like trouble. Just today it was getting hung up in leaves using the transducer side mount

I also have a Slayer Propel 13, still playing with it a bit, but I put my Lowrance transducer in the front scupper hole, basically cut a piece of black starboard to fit in bottom hole and then I ran heavy ty-rap up through the rubber plug, doesn't leak and I have the front hatch cover, I installed the 5AH battery in that rear storage bin with rubber cover. I have a quick disconnect on it to remove easily, I can get my battery out faster then unscrewing one of those front hatch screws, I had to cut out the four corners of the bin to fit battery in, but am thrilled with results. Some options I have that are great are the underseat tackle organizer and the seat back pack. I have two rod holders on either side of the rear hatch and a scotty mount for my flag. I also believe in keeping it minimal, so I removed the front and rear tank well rails and just put the attachment points in the screw locations. I really like the yak and was pleasently surprised how easily it paddles when scouting for duck hunting locations. Wow that was a mouthful, one more thing you already know Reverse is awesome!.....Jack

I have a Slayer Propel 10 and have really enjoyed it this year. Been to places locally (Md/Va/Del) that didn't know existed.

Just got back from winning the last Delaware Paddlesports tournament. Today made me realized what I love most about my propel drive.....the ability to stop, reverse, and combat drift! Even if the ATAK has a drive....I might just be a slayer for life!

Nice job on the win in the tournament, and good review. I have a Propel 10 and love having hands free reverse as well. Its very useful especially when I am bass fishing in the wind and trying to fish docks, wood, or lay downs.

Also for the turbulence on from the prop maybe try a thru-hull mount using duct putty? I had that issue with my old Yak where I could see the paddle strokes on the screen. Switching to a thru-hull mount resolved the issue. Not to mention no drag or worries of damaging the transducer in skinny water. The only disadvantage is you won't get accurate water temps. In the case of my Propel 10 I was able to mount the transducer, battery, and all the wiring in the front hatch made for a nice clean install.

I've considered the through mount but I'd really like to see the difference in picture. Does any body know of any comparisons on line?

I use the transducer arm...after watch j.a. Veils video about duct seal I did that on my tarpon 120..... I truly prefer having the transducer in the water.....I can watch my drop shot go down....wonder if that is the same with thru hull?....also tried a seat on a 2016 model today much quieter than mine......I tried the scupper mount first but it was loose and I had dragging woes too.

But now I have my boonedox landing gear....so I'm a little less worried
