I debated the same thing a few months ago of upgrading to the blackpak and after some reading and looking at images of the blackpak in an outback it seem kind of awkward for what i wanted to do... so I decided on a longer milk crate than the typical crate.. still need to rig it up...which is another point of discussion

Got the H crate as a deal with my outback. The ruggedness, side boxes that fit Planos, rail system, snaps tying directly to the kayak, waterproof cover and integrated rod holders with cinch straps are nice. For long trips, I get quite a bit of use out of it. Short trips, it rarely leaves the car.

This setup cost me less than $10. Asked a local grocery store for a milk crate, pvc sections cost 6$ and I added 2 bungees for $.97 each. I carry 3 Plano boxes, an anchor and some pliers. Plenty of room for an extra layer or two. Added two zip tie loops to hold my hawg trough until I figure out a better mount. My crate is easy to access and I don't have any trouble getting stuff out of it. Seems crazy to me to spend a lot of money on a box when I can use it for gear that I can't build myself.

Interesting that you have two left-hand retrieve reels and one that is a right-hand retrieve. All mine are left-hand, fly, spinning and bait cast. I think I'd have a hard time adjusting back and forth.Mark

Here's what I typically carry:
Final Label.jpg
The tool box is a small Plano Mariner box. It contains lubricant, a towel, the appropriate wrenches and drivers and key spare parts for my Mirage Drive and steering mechanism.
The plastic shoe box holds my Plano 3640 boxes upright. It will hold three of the Plano boxes but I rarely take more than two. Often I have only one.
There is one Scotty mount on each side of the box. I can use them to secure various rod-holder configurations, from fly rods to trolling.
Fuel -- Cliff Bars, Granola Bars and water. Those Cliff Bars proivide a good jolt when I'm dragging.
Not pictured is my deck hatch. I carry my fishing license, car keys, cell phone, first aid kit, and leader material in it.
Probably too much stuff overall but I've actually reduced my inventory this year.Mark
