  • Wilderness Systems ATAK First Impressions

Not my yak but a fellow competitors. Overall I was impressed and feel it is a great kayak. Still love my slayers reverse! Also heard they are not coming out with a pedal drive.

Nobody likes to fix stuff right out of the box.

But if the mushy floor is the ONLY thing holding you back from buying one of these, it's worth pointing out that the fix is actually pretty easy. It just requires cutting and stuffing a couple blocks of foam (closed cell, preferably) under the problem area. This is how just about every kayak gets rigidity.

It's kinda silly they don't come with the foam.

I have one of these and love it. Like any yak it won't satisfy everybody 100%, there are always likes and dislikes.

On the mushy floor, i have not noticed any issues, i have had mine since june and spent at least 60 fishing trips on the water. I'm guessing part of the design to allow rods more access inside the yak is part of what kept them from putting more structure down the middle of it. The seat is a pain in the butt to get in and out of those rails, but that keeps it locked down when you are on it. Unless you are storing it hull up while transporting it you don't even need to take it off. I took mine off a couple of times early on, but just drop it in the low position and use the little bungee that is under the seat to hold it folded down and just transport it that way.

You are right on the deck space, one of the things i love the most about it. I always have tackle around me in easier to access spots and just a lot more room to move around.

Thanks just trying to give my honest impressions and call it how I see it. There are a lot of fanboys out there who think their kayak s$!t don't stink. But like you said 100% is unattainable, you gotta take the good and bad.
