Your co-hosts: John Rentch (J. Rentch) and Mark Bange (Mark)

Where: Our primary launch site is Jonas Green Park located underneath the Rt. 450 Bridge that crosses the Severn River near the Naval Academy. There are at least three other access points to the Severn River near Annapolis:

        1) Tucker St. ramp in west Annapolis that leads into Weems Creek
        2) Truxton Park that leads into Spa Creek
        3) Ellen Moyer Water Park that leads into Spa Creek.

Note that trailers may not be parked at Jonas Green or Tucker St. launch points. The Ellen Moyer Park has a very small parking area and no formal launch ramp. There is an inclined ramp covered with plastic plates for sliding a kayak into the water but no access for a trailer to that ramp.

If you are planning to attend and launch from any site other than Jonas Green please announce so here.

John Rentch and I will be at Jonas Green at 7:00 a.m. to greet you and share our insights on where to fish.

Lunch will be at the Red Hot & Blue on Route 50. Will you and your son be joining us for lunch?
        Mark,
I plan on launching from Tucker St. and will explore the Weems, Cove of Cork and possibly Luce Creeks, depending on weather conditions of course. I am thinking quite ambitious. LOL
New to the game but not a rookie!

I was one of the original group to RSVP. (Want to make sure I get one of those spinners that pickerel love to bite!)

With one week to go the following 13 Snaggedline members have signed up for fishing and lunch at the last M&G of 2015 on 12 December:

                    Dkim73
                    J.A. Veil
                    EMSer
                    monocacykayak
                    whenican
                    jsnyd86
                    mccray44
                    john234 and son
                    Kevin21012
                    WantToFishMore
                    Silasvirus
                    Dimo

There’s still time for others to join us.

As a reminder our primary launch site will be Jonas Green. John Rentch and I will be there at 7:00 a.m. to welcome you. Additionally John Veil will join us to provide participants with an orientation to the Severn River and its various creeks and inlets accessible from Jonas.

The following launch sites are also available:

                    1) Tucker St. ramp in west Annapolis that leads into Weems Creek
                    2) Truxton Park that leads into Spa Creek
                    3) Ellen Moyer Water Park that leads into Spa Creek.

A few members of the OGWLF group have been routinely catching pickerels and stripers in Severn waters for the past few weeks. No guarantees, of course, but we’re hopeful the pattern holds through the 12th.

Pickerels in the Severn’s tributaries have been our most willing target. However, stripers have remained active into December, some in the same shallow water tributaries where pickerels reside and others in certain areas of the river itself. Additionally stripers may be loitering in deeper water near the old USNA bridge debris literally within 100 yards of the Jonas Green beach.

Lures for pickerels include small safety pin and inline spinners, soft plastics and crankbaits. Also, they will eagerly respond to live minnows. Ultra-light to medium light rods are ideal and provide great sport for pickerels.

Stripers will hit the same lures on the same rods most of us have been trolling or jigging with all year. However a slower presentation may be helpful.

Our lunch arrangements have been made. John Rentch has reserved space for us starting at 1:00 p.m. at the nearby Red Hot & Blue restaurant off of Route 50.

Lastly, a free handtied bucktail jig-spinner (a proven pickerel catcher) awaits each participant who wants one. They’ll be available at Jonas Green in the morning for those who launch there and at our lunch at the Red Hot & Blue for those who launch elsewhere.

                    Please join us!

I'll give it a go. I can't do lunch though. I'll be a Jonas Green but I don't know where that is at. I just had my maiden voyage today with my new kayak. I'll probably target the pickerel. Kayak fishing is new to me so I am still learning my way. I am not new to fishing just new to kayak fishing. I am open to any tips or suggestions. I never targeted pickerel so I will need to tips on that.

                            John,

We're glad to have you join us.

Here is a link to info about Jonas Green Park including its address and GPS coordinates:

                            http://www.aacounty.org/RecParks/par...jonasgreen.cfm

Regarding pickerel fishing, they reside in the Severn's tributaries and inlets, usually not in the big river itself. The are ambush feeders that lie in wait of passing prey in pockets of quiet shallow water. Ultra-light to medium light spinning tackle is ideal. Light rods will allow you to effectively cast small lures or live minnows toward structure in the waters they prefer.

Many of the folks coming are experienced in catching pickerels and will be glad to show you likely pickerel locations and how to catch them.

I REALLY wanted to come to this, it would have been my first time in the water with the new kayak. Unfortunately the babysitting and rides for my daughters did not work out again, so I won't be able to make this. My wife works sat morning, so extremely tough to do this Sat mornings. You guys have fun! The long range weather says the weather is supposed to be nice next weekend. I do plan to go out the day after, Sunday late morning. So wish me luck!

                              David
