Anyone have any tips, concepts on bending wire for homemade umbrella rigs?

My wife uses jewelry pliers for working with beads. The look like needle nose pliers but each side is rounds. These and a pair of needle nose pliers should do the trick.

The pliers SMartin is talking about are called round nose pliers. I use a pair of these or a vice. Also check youtube for how-to videos on making umbrella rigs for more ideas.
