I have the evolve and if I started over, I would of gone with the 403. It allows you install it on the back and still use your sailing rudder. I'm not sure if hook1 does it anymore but a few years ago, during xmas, they had a 20% coupon you could use on the 403.
Yes I did that but what you will find is that it barely functions as a rudder. In a current out in the bay like the CBBT, you will easily get turned. I ended up building a carbon fiber rudder add on to increase the surface. That worked well enough but it doesn't beat the sailing rudder. The rudder also causes drag because it's wider.
I'm now using an Outback 2015 without the evolve and actually enjoy it so I may sell my revo with the evolve next spring.
The Evolve attaches directly to the twist and stow rudder. It easily pulls Up and out of the way when not in use. It works well. However, it adds drag if you want to use the rudder without turning the engine on. Ryan (Shady) has it mounted this way. You can also mount it in the mirage drive hole.
The 403 is less expensive and mounts on the back. You can pull it up when not in use and still use the rudder. Yak Fish has it mounted this way.
I have the 403 mounted on the back of my Cuda 14 leaving the rudder attached. I only use it for distance trips or unplanned wind and tide changes to get back to the launch. Works great. Some imagination is required for mounting.
