Hot Deadline: Call for Comments: South County Regional Park Planning
    Deadline: December 14, 2015

    ===============================
Mayo Peninsula Parks Planning Call for Comments

The county formed a committee to provide advice on the use & future development of more than 500 acres of public park land (much of it with extensive water-frontage) on the Mayo Peninsula. The county plans to develop Mayo Beach Park, Beverly-Triton Beach Park and South River Farm Park as a multi-part regional park. We also want Carrs Wharf added to this new regional park.

In addition to the committee, comprised primarily of Mayo Peninsula residents, EVERYONE is encouraged to provide input to the planning process.

Ideas will be used by a consultant, selection anticipated late January 2016, to prepare 2-3
concepts for a regional park complex.

Effective use of these public assets will begin to address Anne Arundel County’s most significant recreation deficiency, public water access.

Comments should be submitted to AA Rec & Parks
    Director, Rick Anthony at rpanth49@aacounty.org
Please also copy Mike Lofton at msl49@aol.com

Attached is a map showing the locations of the four
    primary sites:
    ·
    South River Farm Park
    187 acres
    ·
    Mayo Beach Park
    26 acres
    ·
    Beverly-Triton Beach Park
    342 acres
    ·
    Carr's Wharf Rd
    Public launch & Pier +/- 1 acre

Comments need to be in by December 14, 2015

    Thanks

    Mike Lofton, Chair
Anne Arundel Public Water Access Committee

Local residents make up 90% of the committee. This is our chance to tell the county what we want in this big park - more parking at Beverly Triton? A kayak launch out of South River Farm Park onto Brickhouse Cove and Selby Bay? Mayo Beach Park open to the general public for swimming and kayaking? Boat ramps?

We may not get another chance - make the most of this one.

The deadline for your comments is this Monday 12/14/15. Please send them in. We're getting the expected strong pushback from the neighborhoods around Beverly-Triton Beach Park, Mayo Beach Park and South River Farms Park.

        We are specifically asking for:

*swimming at all county waterfront parks
*open Mayo Beach Park 7 am to dusk 7 days a week no later than May 1 2016
*open South River Farms Park 7 am to dusk 7 days a week no later than May 1 2016
build a kayak launch out of SRFP in Fiscal Year 17 (begins summer 2016)
*open the overflow parking lot at Beverly-Triton Beach Park
*the county paid $185,000 in 2009 for the half acre right next to Carrs Wharf. Turn that expensive half acre into additional Carrs Wharf parking in Fiscal Year 2017
*include a boat ramp in the South County Regional Park plan
*create paddle-in campsites at SRFP and Beverly Triton

Please include your first and last names and your snail mail address so they know you're a real person.

        Thanks

        Lisa

Thanks, MD Dore. Every comment helps.

I've had some extraordinarily negative comments passed along to me "tell the county to stay out of our neighborhood" "if people want water access they can buy houses in water privileged communities like I did" "I pay taxes for my house so the county can't open the parks" "You can't open the parks more because I paid more for my house because I have water access and other people can't come in" - it's awful.

The fact that we all paid for those parks in our tax dollars escapes them. Hrmph.

If you didn't send in your comments by the deadline, please do it now. Rec & Parks will still take them into account.

              Thanks
