It's that time again for the February Meet and Greet, scheduled for Saturday 2/6/2016. We will be fishing the lower Susquehanna River just north of the Susquehanna Flats. Target species will be Yellow Perch but with the Susky you never know what lurks beneath! Between the months of January and February the Yellow Perch are hunkered down deep in the channels waiting for the water temps to rise. Late February and early March they make a run to smaller, more shallow tributaries to spawn.
We will be launching underneath the Havre de Grace railroad bridge, heading towards the eastern side of Garrett Island also known as Perryville. This area holds the largest concentration of schooled Yellow Perch. The launch site is Jean Roberts Memorial Park:

The park is just a small parking lot with a boat ramp and a port-a-pot. Trailers are welcome in the provided middle parking areas. Normal car top vehicle lanes are located on the perimeter of the lot. If the vehicle spots are full, please double up inside the trailer spots so we leave some spots open for the locals. An additional parking lot is provided just on the other side of the railroad bridge if needed.
Lunch reservations are 1:30PM at the Tidewater Grill:
http://thetidewatergrille.com/
We will be targeting depths of 25-60 feet of water. In this area the river channel can exceed 80+ft, but usually the sweet spot is 25-40 FOW. Common rigs are a hi/lo rig with minnows and a 1oz sinker. Depending on the generation flow of the Conowingo Dam, sometimes heavier weight is needed. Another common rig is a double dropshot rig with 1/8-1/32oz jig heads and 2" plastics and again...a 1oz sinker. Some like to tie their own hi/low rigs with shad darts tipped with live minnows. Dead sticking or a gentle jigging action will produce perch. Legal size YP are 9" with a limit of 10 perch. Please layer accordingly, the weather for this meet and greet is never inviting! Keep those feet and hands warm and stay close to a buddy since we will be fishing in dangerously cold waters!!!
PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE GOING TO ATTEND LUNCH SO I CAN GIVE AN ACCURATE HEAD COUNT TO THE RESTAURANT

The parking highlighted in the attachment above is referring to the parking for the restaurant. It's only a few hundred yard drive from Jean Roberts Memorial Park. It's best to park here and walk up to the restaurant. Please do not park in the labeled "VFW" spots. We will also be holding a lure raffle drawing at lunch, please bring a new/slightly used lure if you would like to participate in the raffle. This is a fun meet and greet to kick off the 2016 kayak fishing season. Usually we are in tight groups scattered throughout the fishing grounds, cracking jokes and busting perch. I will be at the launch at 6AM to get things started for the early birds. Hope to see you there!
