  • Question on Perch fishing

I've seen a bunch of videos on how to make hi/lo rigs or double shot rigs for perch. I wonder if I could use this... for the life of me I cannot find a picture of it but I see them everywhere in fishing stores. It's made of thin twisted wire. Its a hi/lo set up. Some have red beads at the end where you attach the hooks. There's a snap swivel at top and bottom for the main line and weight. I wonder will this work for perch. I like the set up since the lines will not get tangled. The concern I have is the wire make spook the fish.

Keep it simple Donnie. Don't use those wire hi lo rigs. I tie 2 hooks right to the main line with a 1 oz weight hanging below. The bite is so soft that you need as much sensitivity as possible. It's nothing more than a light tap while jigging up and down just inches, very slowly.

I actually fished with John Hostalka when we launched from the same ramp. I redid my high low rig like his and my catch rate went up. Its pretty easy to tie one up.

I'm a little different, but I've always liked using shad darts tipped with minnows on the high low rig.

Thanks for video. How do you store them once made?

I cut a 2-3 inch section of pool noodle, cut a notch in it and wrap it around there. Hook the hooks into the noodle and it stores pretty well.

Use a palomar knot to tie on a small bait hook keeping the tag end long. Use the tag end to tie on a small jig.
