I've driven mini-vans for years. One of my good friends told me that the only way to pick up girls with a mini-van is to fill it with puppies or babies.

At this point in my life I prefer to fill it with fishing gear. It works extremely well for that. But those who know me have also seen the child seats in my van. Those are for my grand kids, not "bait." So somewhere along the way, I attracted at least one important woman in my life despite driving a min-van.

Someone mentioned a Scion XB, so I wanted to chime in. I used to have one, it was the first car I ever bought new and I put maybe 170k miles on it with no issues, a totally reliable car. But, when I bought my first yak I quickly replaced it. I began to get cracks in my front window, to the point where I had to replace it twice in the first summer. In general they have poor roof support and there was even a class action suit over it, so I believe that the weight of a yak strapped to the roof was too much and it was causing the cracks. I know the first cracked window I had when I let maybe 18" of snow sit on top in 2010. So, while they are (at least the 06 model) fine cars, I cannot recommend them for yak hauling.

As to the coolness of mini-vans, I drove a hand me down Areostar for most of my 20's. I did get a decent amount of grief about it from my friends, but honestly driving a "mom" car was very helpful in not getting pulled over or having it broken into when it was full of my tools. In addition, being able to sleep it off parked behind a bar helped me make better decisions at and age and time when that was a struggle.
