Stink is good...my Dad used to take a quart fruit jar full of small shad- leave it out in the sun for a couple of months until only oil is left- then he would take 3/0 treble hooks on a trot line with 72# nylon staging line with cotton balls dipped in the shad oil...caught dozens of channel, yellow and blue catfish...

I used to shore fish the Potomac using clam snouts. Worked great for channel cats 2-6 pounds. Once the blue cats took over, my catch rate went down. I only use cut bait now. If you can't get mullet, I highly recommend cut white perch or even cut bluegill. Not sure the smelly baits are good for blue cats as they are more predatory than channel cats.Green Old Town Loon 111

map from ramp to lunch
I'll have paper ms at the ramp, but here is a like so you can plan
It is an 11 min drive to our lunch spot, a locally owned seafood/soul food restuarant, Accokeek Seafood. Nothing fancy, but all maryland fish, local oysters, traditional southern sides....very reasonable. well liked last year. Also, local catfish so if ypu want to "eat an invasive" you can.

Maybe its already been said on here, not sure, but remember for those of you who might be going out for the first time this year (like me), be sure to renew your fishing license! I just remembered to do mine tonight. I believe either a VA or MD license will suffice on the Potomac.

Any chance they serve snakehead? Never had it, and really want to. I will probably be joining for lunch, assuming I've caught a few fish at that point, though I doubt I'm bringing a +1 anymore.

About the PFD something you want to consider.
Water temperature: 40 to 50 degrees
Time until exhaustion or unconsciousness: 30 to 60 minutes
Expected time of survival in the water: 1 to 3 hours
Age in this factoid is in the 20's at 40 years of age cut the time in half. At 50 - 60 cut it again in half.
Wear the PFD so at least your body can found. Otherwise we may need to wait till summer for it to float up.
Capt Mike
EDIT: I replied on the wrong thread but it still is "relevant".
