I didn't have anything long enough to measure it! The tape measure ran out at 35" and it had a long way to go. I slid the tape another 13", and ended up with 48"...perhaps more but it was the most accurate I could get with what I had and the situation with a really heavy unwieldy fish in my lap. It was close to breaking 50", just a little bit shy.
It took up the entire kayak. I didn't even know what to do with it! The weight of it bearing down on my lap was amazing.

I'm hoping you have since invested in a measuring tape for your boat! The last time I found myself in this situation I was fishing for largemouth. I laid it on the dock and took my knife and scratched a line at the tail and head end and later went back with a tape measure.

Ridiculously big fish. Congrats Alan, you should be on the leaderboard!

I still think someone should patent/produce a "really big" measuring board. Maybe a bit wider than the regular one, stiffer and up to 60 inches (at least) ...Maybe 70 for Battista

I've got a long tape on my paddle. Now I know paddles seem to be in the minority around here, but thats another story . Though the ironic thing is I've yet to really need it .
