  • Shad on the Eastern Shore?

Do the shad run heavy in any of the eastern shore rivers like they do in the Susquehanna? Really don't know much about them except for fishing for them at the Susky. Have caught a few here and there in the Tuckahoe and down by Blackwater but really don't know why or if they would like any particular river to spawn in.

There are plenty of mudshad over here!

But seriously, I don't think there is much of a shad run anywhere. I've caught a few at the very head of some rivers in Dorchester County before, but it was only a few fish over the years. I've never fished north of Talbot County on the shore though, maybe there a few that show up once you get towards the head of the bay?

One place over here that does have a heck of a lot of hickories though is the OC Inlet in the summer. They'll be all over the place sometimes, breaking water and doing their best blue blitz impression.

It seems to be going on down in Virginia.http://www.snaggedline.com/showthrea...oquan-River-VA Also they are above DC at Fletchers Boathouse.

I just don't know much about them, they still run strong in the Susquehanna and pile up at the dam, that's just where I learnt of them and really the only place I have ever fished for them. I know that the Rappahannock and a couple of other VA locations are also hot spots. Still just generally wondering why they seem to favor some rivers. Maybe they are somewhat similar to salmon and prefer water with strong current and rocky bottoms for spawning. The lazy meandering rivers on the shore just may not be there thing.

I was referring to anywhere on the shore; I know they run over there.

They probably don't get much of a run over here because most all the rivers are tidal and don't have much of a freshwater head water feeding them. If I was going to try shad fishing on the shore, I think the upper reaches of the Choptank, Nanticoke, or Pocomoke rivers would be your best bet to find them.

Red Bridges on the Choptank was a well known hickory hotspot. I've never been, just remembering past fishing reports.

That was going to be my second theory. Just got wondering after catching the few I did on the shore if the runs were similar but that makes perfect sense.
