Word on the street is that the big blues have returned to the back bays behind OC...Hemingway and I will be checking things out on Friday evening. I'll admit that I was very skeptical that they would return considering we had a relatively mild winter and they didn't show up like that in the previous 15 years prior, but I hope this is just the beginning of last years repeat. Last year they really began in the middle to end of April, but I would imagine that considering how cold it was last year, that water temps are likely comparable now to what they were last year at that time.

That's funny as I was just doing some recon and I hear that some have been caught by netters in DE as well... I hope they come back but it does make JBay a little less fun because I already have my bluefish fix for the year.Used to fish more.

In short, last night was tough. No fish. Even being in a boat, covering a lot of ground, we weren't able to find them. We went from the OC Inlet to basically the Verrazano bridge; slow trolling most of the way. We looked in the channel and moved up onto the edges of the flats as the tide came in. Lots of bait, but no significant marks on the FF. It was also night time which made seeing them on the surface at any distance impossible. The water and air temps were chilly so I don't know if that plays into it or not. Hopefully they show up with a little more consistency here soon.___________________________
