Taking a family canoe/Kayak tour and picnic on lower Hooper Island Sat. ... Anyone ever float around there? I hope to have time to fish a bit while the ladies chase crabs.

    Hooper Isl.

The Hooper Isl. bridge holds schoolie stripers- fish on a moving tide. Croakers are good in channels of the Honga, esp. in the evening. Some of the points and channels toward the mainland hold stripers and trout. good luck.

Fished at the southern Hoopers Island bridge in late May. There were lots of throw back rock around the bridge and a few hardhead. Also went over to the cut behind Wroten island and caught some larger HH up to 16" or so. Might be a few flounder around now in the right spots.

sorry these are late, great day on Hooper's last weekend. Here are a couple pics. the X on the map is were I got a double on rockfish (the wife ended up reeling one in...both short) and the "loop" is where we caught plenty of croaker from shore and the canoe. We also caught crabs wading in the shallows (scooped one that was being chased by an atlantic stingray, startling all parties concerned) and did some swimming. We saw some small trout at low tide in the "thoroughfare", saw about 40 terrapins. A great family outing....i'd like to go back just to fish! Included a pic of my little fishing buddie, my daughter.

Glad the trip worked out for you all . Looks like you had a beautiful day. Plan a return trip in the autumn when the schoolie stripers are thick at the bridges!

trout----hard to say for sure looking through the shallow water...and they took off once they noticed me, but I'd say about12 inches. Spotted back and shape is pretty distinctive. There were far more mini-rocks.
