  • Upper Potomac river clarity

Hey guys Depending on water and other factors, my son and I plan to embark a 10-12 day float fishing kayak trip from Cumberland to Swains lock. We hope to leave start between the 19th to 22nd. So far I think the water levels are manageable but am concerned about the water clarity. Since I live in Gaithersburg, I'll appreciate any info on the water clarity. I know last week its really muddy in brunswick to white flint stretch.

    Thanks

    Sounds like fun.
Just remember after you portage the Seneca breaks to stay on the MD side of the islands or might miss Swains Lock. The water gets pretty swift around there.

2 years ago, my son and I took the VA chute. Was a helluva ride but made it. Really beautiful on the VA side. Just before the very end of the chain islands is a little opening which is pretty much across from Swains Lock. We just aim a little higher and paddle hard across.

No reason to portage Seneca Breaks. I run it all the time on the maryland side.
