Yeah, curious to know too. South of the bridge? Mouth of the Patuxent? Near Bunky's? Cove Point?

im looking for flounder on the dropoffs but who knows what will bite. target one and get none. if i see some big arches i'll drop a swamp monkey or bt to them but mainly flounder teasers. might even be some larger blues crusing around

I went out last night for a few hours and didn't have much luck. One near jumbo spot and one nice jimmy. I was hoping for some topwater action that never materialized. However, I was reminded of why I don't like fishing the Patuxent as much as other places--freaking boaters zooming past constantly. No close calls or anything rude or dangerous, but it was really annoying. It was mostly my fault because I was feeling lazy, got a later start than I wanted, and ended up fishing relatively close to the harbor. There were a surprising number of boats out for a weekday evening, though.

The are around the 3-legged marker is traditionally good for croakers, as is the area in front of Green Holly Pond and the area around marker #5. Those areas are kind of long paddles, though, and the river has been really busy the mornings/early afternoons of the past two weekends. The area in front of Cuckold Creek has been good according to reports. It's a short paddle from Clark's Landing, but that's been a parking lot on weekends, too. You would probably have a quieter time at PLO or Piney Point, which aren't too much farther. Just my 2 cents, though.

If you know someone who lives in the Drum Point or Chesapeake Ranch Estates community, you can launch there and save yourself a lot of paddling and be in a more productive area faster. I don't know anyone who lives there, though. You could launch from PAX/NAS if you have access to navy bases.

A buddy of mine said the striper action is heating up, but you're committed to fishing one spot or embarking on long paddles between spots across unproductive water if he's fishing where I think he is. Most of the reports of big stripers are coming from the Gas Docks area, which would be a prohibitively long paddle from Solomons, and I don't know of anywhere closer to launch. This part of the Bay is very frustrating for a lack of good launch spots.

If you're still interested in fishing the area, shoot me a PM and I'll give you some more specific locations where I've found fish in the past. Sorry I don't have any better first-hand info.

              Where's Gas Docks?

Surf, what time are you going? Use lures for flounder? Is there a bait shop along the way?
