Big Hobie iCast Reveal?

Anyone have any theories as to what Hobie is going to announce on Wednesday at iCast? There is a lot of hype all the sudden after all the other companies came out with pedals and motors.

No clue. They're real tight lipped. Maybe something with the hull to fit larger transducers, but I honestly have no idea. With all the hype, you're d think it'd be bigger than that.

We don't want anymore SUPs or tandem PAs hobie! I just hope whatever it is can be retrofitted. Can't be buying new hobies every 2 years and with all the other companies coming out with competing pedal/electric drives they better come up with something good!

Ha I was just getting on here to post this! Can't say I've ever really ever wanted reverse but I guess it's cool? Should be good for bass fishermen or anyone who needs real tight maneuvering

Now that I think about it more I think this could be really useful fishing jetties and rock piles like the walls at CHSP where the waves and current are always trying to bash you into the rocks. It will also make vertical jigging interesting by possibly eliminating the need to back troll while jigging but I wonder how the different Hobies will handle backwards in current. Maybe worse because the rudder would be at the front of the boat? Does it matter?

Not only reverse, but new fins maybe. I'm not going to try it until I've seen some positive feedback, and even then it might still be advantageous to have less parts to break. Certainly levels the playing field on the reverse argument.

It'll be standard in all new 2017 Hobie Mirage Drive kayaks. No word on the price if you would like to upgrade your existing drive.

Just looking at it, it appears the drive is longer and the existing drive slots may not accept the new drive- but if it fits, it will be a first for Hobie not making you buy a new boat just to get the upgraded seat, etc.

I'll be interested to see a few reviews of the new hobie drive, but I really want to see reviews of the Perception Pilot. Looks like a pretty good deal for about $500 less than other pedal drive kayaks, and it's about the right size/weight to be easily transported like my Sound 12.5.

I also saw that boat in one of the iCast walkthroughs. I hope that it gets some more coverage in the coming days. I watched hobie's livestream of their new drive this morning and now I'm back to feeling pretty "meh" about the whole thing.
