6 am the wife, daughter and I met Slackdaddy (Nick) and his lovely bride and crew. Our little navy, 2 canoes and 3 kayaks, launched (for free if not otherwise using the beach) from the public beach area of North Beach. The sunrise was spectacular.
As advertised, a VERY long paddle to deeper water. Then the wind drifted us out. Fishing was very slow, but the occasional croaker was usually decent sized and unusually feisty. Eventually, everyone scored except my daughter....which se deserved for out fishing me last weekend at Hooper's Island (oh, did I forget to relate that detail?). Mostly croaker, but one monster Spot, a baby Rockfish, and quit a few 6"-9" bluefish...But WOW did we drift a long ways.
When we decided to head in we had over a mile paddle into the wind just to get back to the last line of crabpots! Tough on the little ones, but hey, ya gotta get back to the beach if you want breakfast!
It was great getting families together. A new kind of meet and greet. Here are some pics of the beautiful sunrise and some hook-ups. My wife is in the green canoe, Mrs. "Slackdaddy" on the Tarpon.
