Survival Products October Striper Challenge! Cash payout and more!

This will be an online striper CPR (catch-photograph-release) tournament that will run the entire month of October. October is one of the best times to get out on the water and catch MD's most popular species. The humidity is low, the air is cool, and the shallows are packed full of bait. Get outside and enjoy some of the best fishing of the year as stripers pack on the pounds before winter. It's an exciting time to fish.

The rules of the tournament will be the exact same as last year

The details and rules are listed below.

    Dates
    10/1 - 10/31

    Species
    Total Length of 2 Rockfish

    Registration
$20 Entry Fee paid via PayPal (dgreiner18@gmail.com)

An identifier will be emailed to you 10/1 or after you register.
After you register, please post your name on this thread so everyone knows who is participating.

    Payout
80% Payout (20% towards tournament costs)

Regarding the 20% going back to running the tournament....I will not be pocketing the money. I thoroughly enjoy doing this and do not need to make a small profit off my fellow anglers. I have a job to make money. This isn't work. This is fun. My hope is that we will organize more tournaments and use what small profit we make from this tournament and upcoming tournaments to advertise and market. Radio spot, newspaper advertisement, or a local tv spot would be great (but expensive). That is a win-win for everyone and the sport of kayak fishing in general if there is money to raise awareness of our sport and CPR tournaments in general. I hope everyone understands.

1st place - 50% plus $100 Survival Products Gift Card
2nd place - 20% plus $50 Survival Products Gift Card
3rd place - 10% plus $25 Survival Products Gift Card

As an example, if we have 15 registered anglers....
    1st - $150 plus $100 Survival products GC
    2nd - $60 plus $50 Survival products GC
    3rd - $30 plus $25 Survival products GC

Survival Products is located in Salisbury, MD and is a Hobie, Wilderness, and Native Dealer. You can use the GC on accessories or whatever...like a new Hobie!

    Rules
    CPR Format
    1. Each fish photo MUST include ALL of the following criteria:
    a. The whole fish, tip to tail (you may pinch the tail)
    b. Laying with the mouth closed and tip of the lip at beginning of ruler. Fish MUST be left side UP.
    c. Measurement markings must be clearly visible
    d. Assigned unique identifier must be visible

Hawg Trough and Plano Bump Board is recommended for scoring purposes, but any standardized measuring device (yard stick, Stanley tape, seamstress tape) will be acceptable. Nothing homemade.

    Fish from kayak only.
Any waterway in Mid Atlantic Region (MD, VA, DE, DC, PA)

Enter Catch Photos to striperchallenge@gmail.com with your name and "Rockfish Challenge". DO NOT POST YOUR PICTURES ON THIS THREAD. In the interest of fairness, we want to keep the identifier private.

Standings will be updated at the least weekly

Sounds like a fairly cheap, easy and fun tournament. Got any recommendations for a waterproof go-pro-like cam that isn't pricey? I always tend to leave my phone in my dry bag, so taking pics during my excursions is never really an option, at least not an easy one.

      Patrick,
A small waterproof phone bag is a lot cheaper then a waterproof camera. It tethers to your PFD and is clear so you can take pictures with your phone through it. If you do want to buy a camera there are a few models out there for around $100. I have been looking for a quality one myself, but just cant bite the bullet. I hope you register, its a great event that we had a lot of fun with last year.

12 anglers in the first day is GREAT! Come on guys....keep it going. The payout will only increase with more people entered and for only $20, it could pay off big time for you. I appreciate all the early support.

I didn't realize MD requires this:

Striped bass tournament organizers need authorization in the form of a signed letter from the Department of Naural Resources in order to hold a tournament.

I was not aware of this. Thanks for your research. This is simply a fun tournament that was started by another Snaggedline member a couple of years ago and continued by me. It is a small CPR event that is meant to get people out fishing during a time they may usually not explore; not disrupt the fishery through catch and kill methods.

With the 12 people we have entered, I do not expect to hear from anyone. If anyone is against us continuing the tournament, I encourage you to send me a PM so we can discuss it. Like I said, its a fun tournament that isn't worth a lot of headache to me, so if its gets to the point where we need to go through a ton of red tape and report the "impact", it'll be discontinued.

and I would think the fact that everyone is fishing in their home turf has a negligible impact....
