  • Yak Turtle

I know this is a late post, but I thought it was pretty cool. I launched my yak on 9/17 out of Breezy. I got a late start, but got on the usual breaking school of rock, found some blues as well during the morning. Same as what others have been reporting....dinks. This has been my 1st summer with a Revo so I still get a kick out of chasing down breakers even if they are small. I was getting ready to head in and I saw something in the water off to my N/E that looked like a wad of grass. As I got closer I saw movement and scrambled to get my camera out. I thought maybe I made too much noise, but got the 1st shot. The turtle made a move and came right to me for the 2nd shot. Pretty incredible. I don't think that would have happened if I was in my boat. He did take off quick & I lost him because the wind and waves were really picking up. Thanks, Dave

FYI - Now I understand the reason for the raised seats in the new Hobies & others. My previous yak (While lame) did not cut waves and end up with me sitting in water. IMG_20160917_124636691.jpgIMG_20160917_124641560.jpg

That's awesome! Working and fishing off the charter boat in years past, I've seen a quite a few turtles but they've never been close enough to get a good picture. That's really cool that you did. I've also swam with them a bunch while snorkeling and diving, and they are much much faster than one would think.

                Great pic!
It's awesome being stealthy enough to sneak up on wildlife like that.
