  • Discovery Village New Kayak Launch Ribbon Cutting THIS Friday Oct 7 2016 10 am

    Hi all,

Please come to the ribbon cutting for a new kayak launch at Discovery Village in Shady Side, MD, this Friday 10/7/16 at 10 am. Bring your yak!

The next county boat ramp is going to be at Discovery Village in Shady Side. The county is leasing all or most of Discovery Village for a park and a new kayak launch is opening THIS week. Steve Schuh is cutting the ribbon on the Discovery Village kayak launch this Friday October 7 2016 at 10 am. Details at the end of this post.

Fort Smallwood, the first public county boat ramp, took 25 years. I don't yet know the time frame for the Discovery Village boat ramp, but it's moving along fast. In the meantime, we get a kayak launch.

Hope to see you this Friday in Shady Side!

    Lisa

Lisa thanks for the info. I have been at discovery village and, if itis the same launch, it is small but definitely a great launch site!
Have to work, wish I could attend.

My brother ( a boat fishing guy) and I ( kayak fisher) attended the ribbon cutting for the kayak launch and boat ramp last Friday. About 50 people including elected officials, government workers, and touring kayakers also attended. It's a very small launch, but with direct output into the Bay and plenty of parking. Thank you to those who were active in getting this location opened!
After the ribbon was cut, several touring yaks launched. I did not bring my Outback but there were many fish breaking within 50 feet of the launch! I hope to go back soon and try my luck.

Launched out of there today. It's a tight launch (see pic) but gives nice access to the area and its better than parking near the baseball fields. All peddlers beware of low tide, its a pretty good paddle out to where you can use you peddle drive. High tide is no problem.

I'm hoping when they do the single lane boat ramp that they also widen the kayak launch a bit.

Thank you Lisa and everyone else who helped make this happen.
