    2016-12-13 11.20.44.jpg

I spent a couple of hours on Weems Creek today - I took this photo before I split. A beautiful day but a bit chilly. I trolled to the spot where I was going to try for pickerel and got nothing on the way. On my first cast, I hooked a small pickerel using a 4" chartreuse paddletail on a 1/4 oz. red jighead. Then nothing for the next 2 hours, moving all around the creek. Next time...

I like the picture, looked like a beautiful morning. To bad the fishing didn't match.

First cast success is usually an omen for bad day of fishing.

I almost think I should carry a pad and pen in my pack to record when this happens, as I have found this to be true far far more often than pure chance would suggest.

            Jim,
I don't live in Annapolis area and I fish 0-2 times a year launching from JG. Though I know where you launched from and fished...such a nice place. I hope pickerel show up in good numbers soon.

I have been carrying 1/8 OZ jig head only. Next time (in January) I will bring few 1/4 OZ.

I am superstitious and make an absurdly short first cast to rid this bad luck

That is a brilliant idea! And I plan on incorporating that scheme on my next outing.

                      Trolling eliminates those concerns...

Ah, but sometimes a first cast catch signals "every bass in this pond skipped breakfast" and those days are solid gold. What we need a way to tell the difference.
