Question about maryland fishing license.

I read some articles this morning. Is it true that if I have VA saltwater fishing license, I don't need MD saltwater fishing license?
It makes me confuse. I was trying to find some information, but could not find it.
Can someone please give me clear answer?

I'm glad someone else asked about this because I thought there was ambiguity too, at least on the Virginia page for regulations. On the Virginia page the way the rules are written make it sound like the reciprocity is only honored in Potomac waters where one would be closer to the state boundary line. I currently have the MD license with registration in both states, but would like to make sure I'm complying with the regulations.

Regarding the Potomac, Ie fresh water license. I believe there is also reciprocity

Here is a portion of it. "Chesapeake Bay and Seaside - Anglers with saltwater licenses from either Virginia or Maryland may fish in any portion of the Chesapeake Bay, or any of the saltwater reaches of its tributary rivers, as well as seaside bays and creeks and the Atlantic Ocean where a Virginia saltwater license is required. Virginia licenses honored include: 1) individual annual licenses; 2) individual temporary licenses; 3) private boat licenses covering all persons fishing on the boat; 4) annual licenses for charter boats, headboats, and partyboats; and 5) annual licenses for rental boats.

Note: MD licensees may fish in VA tidal waters as described above without additional license, but must register in the new VA Fisherman Identification Program (FIP) beginning January 1, 2011. Click on following link for more information, www.mrc.virginia.gov/FIP."

Also in case you don't already know you don't need a license to fish Saltwater in New Jersey. All that is required is registering ....... http://www.nj.gov/dep/saltwaterregistry/index.html

Just be aware of the dividing lines between tidal & nontidal waters too. DC does not reciprocate.

I found this on the VA FIP site, which seems to answer the saltwater reciprocity question.

A. This gets a little tricky. Maryland is the only state with a reciprocity agreement with Virginia. We honor their fishing licenses and they honor ours. That said, licensed Marylanders who fish in Virginia will need to register with the Virginia Fisherman Identification Program. Here’s why: We need the contact information for everyone who fishes in Virginia waters. We can’t collect that information through Maryland’s fishing license system. There’s just no way to tell which Maryland license-holders will fish in Virginia.
