  • Electric Chicken

I just tied a new to me Red Drum pattern. It is called the Electric Chicken.

    The Recipe:

    2ot stainless steel hook
    30lb mono for weed guard
    Heavy dumbbell eyes
    Red Thread (heavy)
    Chartreuse Zonker Strip
    Pearl Flashabou
    Hot Pink Estaz

    1. Tie dumbbell eyes to hook near eye.
    2. Tie in the 30 pound mono and rap it down into the bend of the hook
    3. Tie in the Zonker strip (Length of the hook) Fur down
    4. Tie in the Pearl Flashabou
    5. Tie in the Hot Pink Estaz. Wrap estaz forward. The original had the estaz end before the dumbbell eyes. I rapped the eyes and tied off forward.

This is a very quick and easy fly to tie!

      Nice job.

Looks likes a fancy crystal bugger.

I think there is a soft plastic paddletail color that was the rage a year or so ago for striper trolling called the electric chicken.

It's still a very good color. Along with chicken-on-a-chain, opening night, hot tomato... I don't know where they come up with the names, but they are some of the standard colors in my arsenal! Many a puppy drum, trout, and striper have fallen for them.

I have used electric chicken colored (pink and chartreuse) soft plastics for many years. In the spring trolling season, I scored many nice stripers by trolling 4" BPS Saltwater Sally paddletails in electric chicken color behind jigheads or bucktails.

I recall a day fishing in the eastern shore islands with Walleye Pete when I cast and retrieved a Bass Assassin in shallow water with a lot of rod tip twitching. The stripers went nuts for that lure that day.

Great looking fly. I'd eat it if I were a drum!

I used one color called the Mexican flag...motor oil, watermelon, hot pink...99% of the time I use two colors- white and chartreuse...and variations of white- with chartreuse tail, white with red tail, chartruese with red tail, etc...

If it wasn't for the GPS I hid on your and Gary's kayaks, I'd never know where the fish are!

HA! I doubt that. You seem to do just fine on your own.
