So I'm looking/thinking of adding an action camera on my Outback. However the price tag on a Gopro ($200-$500) is kind of hard to justify. I have been looking at some of the other brands like Apeman and Kodak, I just don't know. So here is my question, Does anyone use an action camera and if so what brand?? It does not have to be just on your yak, your bike, car, whatever.

SJ Cam 4000. I have one and it works great. I have had it over 1.5 years and it works great.

There's an action cam at Walmart that has really good reviews online.
Otherwise get an older GoPro, they all shoot the same for the most part. The capabilities the new ones have that the older ones don't, are often so demanding you need a really nice PC to edit/upload the footage.
Get a used GoPro Hero3 Silver. I believe they still shoot 1080 60fps which plenty. If you're just getting into filming though 720 30 or 720 60 is sufficient and can be edited on most platforms.

This one is being claimed to beat GoPro in video quality and also beats it hands down in battery life. It's coming up at $180 now but has been down as low as $130

Been down the road with action cameras.
My list of must haves was - waterproof remote, ability to add external power and remain water proof.
ALL action cameras have an effective battery life of roughly 2 hours (with WIFI OFF), it does not matter if you are in standby or filming, the battery drain is roughly the same, 2 hours.
Forget low light, all action cameras have SMALL lenses and senor surfaces. low light filming needs a big lens and large sensor (or film format).
Had an original GoPro hero, it was good for horse riding, stupid stunts, and playing around in general.
I bought a list of knock off cameras off Amazon because the had "water proof" remotes,, well they where IR, not RF remotes. no where in the listings did it tell you they were IR.
Smart Phone is not an option as a remote, it requires the WIFI, and your typ battery life is 1/2. besides, my phone is stored away in a drycase inside the kayak.
Then I found the SooCoo S70 with it's added water proof power connector all my life's prayers where answered,, or so I thought.

The remote does not work, plain and simple, does not work. I bought 2 of them, same thing. ZERO support from seller and manufacture. So they went back.
We now use a GoPro 4+ with an external power water proof case, and a homemade water proof batterypack that will run it for at least 72 hours.
I also run a Drift Stealth2 and Drift Ghost, each with remotes.
The Drift remotes are the best in the business. I will have to fabricate external power cords for the drifts, nothing commercially available.
