I caught and released a bird again while kayak-fishing. This bird was the 6th bird I removed the lure. So far, I caught and released the 5 birds while kayak-fishing. This seagull was the 5th bird caught and released while kayak fishing.
The key to remove a lure from a bird successfully is covering the eyes of the bird. You can use a towel, a t-shirt or hands to cover the eyes.
Sequence of the events on a cold fishing day (air temp: 20 – 33 F, Water temp: 46 F):
I caught a 10-12" speck. A seagull tried to steal my speck. I hooked the seagull (on the wing first). A pelican stole the speck. I removed the lure from the seagull, and released her. I got skunked.
