  • Sea monster!

    Guys,
I captured this animal, whatever it is, just sound of the bay bridge yesterday using my new Humminbird Mega Imaging.
Whatever it is, it's clearly fish-like and hovering just off bottom. It's between 7 and 9 feet long.
    Any clue what it is?

Also, I'm finding myself staring only at the screen now. The new imaging is really cool.

    Alan,

Looks like Chessie the Manatee lost has lost his bearings again.

That seems to be the consensus. At first I thought it was a shark, but the tail is going the wrong direction. Then I thought, maybe a manatee but the tail looked forked. In the shadow it looks curved so maybe the tail just caught a funny shadow as it swam.

Don't have a clue what it is, but the water temps are still way too cold for a manatee to have made it's way up the bay.

Hard to say, but like you I am learning how to decipher the images on my 798 ci DI SI...I use the blue palette that I think makes it easier to see...a horizontial shaped tail is definitely a dolphin, whale, manatee trait and not a shark...pilot whales are about that size and can stay submerged for long periods of time...and you captured a nice school of fish about 10 feet off the left side about three feet off the bottom...

I was going to say Sturgeon, but the tail seems wrong.

Reminds me of a girl I met while serving overseas. I'll never forget a tail like that.

I have once again proven my wife to be correct that I should not have a social media account.

If you don't mind giving someone who only very recently purchased his first fish finder a lesson, how can you tell the length to be 7-9 feet from that image?

That image is zoomed in 2X. However, from the fish finder screen I can move the cursor around and get an estimate.
