Face Shields?

Hi all,

I see quite a few folks wearing face shields out on the bay. For those of you who do, how are they? Do they do a good job with sun protection? Are they breathable? Comfortable? Better brands or places to buy than others?

I use them on bright sunny days. They do a great job of filtering out the harmful sun rays. They also break the cooler winds that occur during the colder times. I wear glasses, so sometimes I have to adjust the position on my face to prevent my glasses,from fogging. Overall, I think they are worth the investment.

I have been using these for about 2 years now and they are great. I first got a buff brand but found it would fog up my sunglasses. The mission buff works just as well and have less issues with fogging up with my sunglasses. A co worker and I got them when the AC went out at work during the summer. That's the great thing about it is that when you wet it with water then snap it, it also acts as a cooling towel. I usually have one dry one on, then keep a 2nd one in a small cooler. It's VERY refreshing on a long paddle back to the boat ramp.

Look for varieties that offer a mesh patch in front of your nose and mouth. They have less fogging of sunglasses.

I have a different ones I've bought and tried. Most fog my glasses or are too tight for my comfort. I bought this type a year ago and it was one of my main go to. Thanks for the info. I'm worry about the glass fogging as I tend to get that from just sweating. I like the idea of the mesh in the nose area. The one size fits all concept is worrying as well. But we shall see.

With the Balaclava the material is light enough where it stretches without getting too tight. That is the problem I found with many of the Buff type I tried, they didn't stretch well and were uncomfortable. That and the fogging issue. The hat is feels and looks pretty flimsy but oddly enough it isn't and works great. They make a wider full brimmed version also.

On my boat, I use the balaclava described by Oldbayrunner.

A friend gave me an attractive name-brand face shield last month. I tried it and found it was so snug it hurt my ears. So I am back to the Gillz mask instead.

I use the SA shields, they are inexpensive (buy them on sale only!) but the material is VERY thin, and "you get what you pay for" - with that being said, I think the last deal I was in we paid $30 for 10 shields, which is a great deal in my opinion.

Soap or shaving cream on the glasses then buffed off will keep them from fogging up.

I love mine, yes some foggy glasses but I can adjust. I have hoorag.com ones
