  • New Jersey; salt water license reciprocity?

I have a salt water rec license in Maryland. Is this good on the jersey shore, or do I need to buy another license. Going this weekend. Any input helps; for shore/inlet fishing too. Thanks Steve

NJ doesn't have a SW license but you do need to register in their program. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=new+jersey+salt...ishing+license
    Used to fish more.

In New Jersey as long as your staying in the salt you don't need a license

The Salt Water registry is a national program and if you are registered in one of the listed states, you do not have to register again.

                Great, thanks guys!

Anyone ever fished from the shore at Townsend Inlet, Sea Isle City? I am figuring either bottom fishing with live or cut bait, 4" storm or swim shads if the current is right, or tossing shiny metal if there are birds and breaking fish.

I used to fish the inlet forTog. We used old spark plugs for sinkers and bought tins of 100 hooks for a couple bucks. If you ever have fished for Tautog, you'll know why we went the cheap route.

Last year, I picked up some nice weakfish using crab.

                  Good luck,
                  John

New Jersey requires all anglers to register in their registry program: "Anglers with a valid registration with the National Saltwater Angler Registry or have a valid license from another exempted state are required to register (for free) with the NJ Saltwater Recreational Registry Program. Registration with NJ will exempt you from having to register with the National Saltwater Angler Registry."

It's confusing and stands directly counter to the point of the registry in my opinion. I only know because while I live in MD, most of my saltwater fishing is done in NJ. It's confusing, and I've spent hours trying to figure it out before they clarified the rule.

The same thing applies for Virginia tidal waters. A Maryland tidal waters license covers you from the license perspective. But you still need to register with the Virginia Marine Resources Commission and get a free ID number.
