  • fishing/anchoring in moving water

    Hey guys,
Is it dangerous to anchor in flowing water, like a river? How about in current with waves?

I anchored up at Lapidum in moving water and it was fine but it seemed like it may be a little scary if that water was moving faster.

I have never had a problem anchoring up in current, as long as it has been from the bow or stern, via an anchor trolley. Anchoring from the side in current is a problem, as the water will build up on the side of the kayak.

I don't have problems in the bay, provided that I don't anchor too close to a boat channel where large boats are moving. Otherwise, the boat wake may approach from the side of the kayak. This is depending on how the kayak is positioned by current or wind. The boat wake that has become rolling is not that much of a problem. Its the closer wake that is a problem. It requires that you turn into the wake. To anchor properly you do need an anchor trolley.
