  • Mattawoman Sewage Spill

They’ve posted a notice for the public to avoid Mattawoman for awhile due to a raw sewage spill over the weekend. No indication when it would be “safe”. Estimated to be 15,000 gallons so fortunately not super large.

Great...more pollution...and it all goes into the River system...same as always...heavy spring rains flush the drainage systems upstream and when the wastewater treatment plants gets too much rain, they by-pass and dump raw sewage..

Next time you step out of your yak in the mud down there you can rest assured that "is not" mud between your toes.

Pulled a few fish out of there last Wednesday, and people were already talking about the spill. Thankfully not a huge dump but I agree, better safe than sorry.

This spill happened on Saturday, or at least was discovered then. It was from a sewage pipe near the Walmart in Waldorf, so way at the headwaters of the creek.

The little creek crosses US 301 and down 225 (Berry Road)...

Such a bummer that this stuff happens pretty often. I see that there wasn't specific info about when it would be "safe" again, but has anyone sort of got a general idea of how long this might take to clear? I'm hoping to hit it again next week some time and was hoping to hook into more than just a few Finless Browns

I would think this snow and runoff would help flush it from the river. Or atleast help dilute it.

The holding pond is about 15 miles from Slavins launch...much of the creek is a small gravel bottom winding little stream through the woods and meadows...just the distance and travel reduces the pollution every mile...kinda like time/dose exposure to ionizing radiation...
