  • Boonedox Landing gear is a MUST HAVE

The Boonedox landing gear really transforms how you manage your kayak on and off the water. The best thing about it, is how it works for every type of kayak.
Being able to keep all your gear in your kayak, and walk into and out of the water without having to turn your kayak over, or lift it up ontop a cart makes life so much easier.

Very well constructed, even handles the pro anglers weight with ease.

Check out the video going over how it works !

Landing Gear wheels are often used on the larger Native kayaks. Many users like them. For me, I don't want to deal with the weight of the Landing Gear or the fact that they clutter up the rear area. I mount rod holders just behind the seat. If I had a Landing Gear, I would not be able to use them.

For heavier kayaks, like the Hobie Pro Anglers and the Native Titans, this type of set up makes moving your kayak on land easier. But for lighter kayaks, I don't think the expense or space requirements are warranted. On my Manta Ray 11, I have a built in stern wheel that allows me to roll it across hard surfaces. On my Slayer Propel 10, I use a C Tug cart when needed.

The term "Must Have" is in the eye of the beholder.

This video has me puzzled. Was this video filmed at the little known car top launch on Curtis Creek? I've launched there several time but I'm not sure that launch is supposed to be general knowledge.

I suspect it's filmed where you think... It's not very well known as it's not publicized too often... But it is listed as a cartop launch on several websites...

It was definitely filmed there. I use that launch often and I've been told that as long as the business which shares that lot doesn't have a large event going on they don't mind the use of their parking space. I'm pretty sure it is one of the lesser known/used launches in the area like you said.

I believe he said for the Pro Angler ............. and he is right. The PA is around 200 lbs loaded. The Hobie wheels put a lot of stress on the scupper tubes and are a pain to put on and off in the water. For the PA and heavier yaks it is a must have or something similar. I’m trying to build one with square tubing and if I’m not satisfied then I will buy one.

John ......... the Boondock wheels stay outside the yak so they don’t take up space in the yak ............ they also give you some stabilization if you start to turtle. Jus Sayin

Memory Maker, look into the C-Tug sandwheel. They have an axle ID of 1".

I have them and I don’t like them because the cart always wants to slide. I may try to use the wheels though because they will be easier to put the boondock type carrier on in the water

Yes that was the launch. It was recently purchased by Tanyard springs, the homes that you drive past, and that will soon be their private community boat ramp, which will get a huge over haul and a nice ramp put in. I believe its going to get a gate as well.

Sorry for resurrecting such an old post. Does anyone if I can still launch there? The neighborhood(Tanyard cove) has their own gated waterfront launch. Wondering if the business owner let ppl park there.

It looks like that cartop launch is actually an AA county park: https://www.aacounty.org/locations-a...leys-cove-park so yes, it should still be accessible. From the county's website it says: "Park south or to the left of the American Legion parking lot."

In looking it up, I also saw that the county is currently working to build a public boat ramp there see more details here: https://www.aacounty.org/departments...park-boat-ramp

I’ll agree with John. The Landing Gear is very helpful for heavier kayaks. My days of heavy kayaks are over. It’s been an expensive lesson, but once you get to where you need something like Boone Dox Landing Gear, it’s time to start thinking about a boat. This is the direction that I took at least. Purely personal preference. I want to be able to grab my kayak and go. Pedal drives, landing gear, motors, batteries, and everything else that push some of these rigs into the 250 lb range are no longer for me.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I caught more fish on a 12’ paddle kayak that weighed 45 lbs than I have on any of my other fishing vessels INCLUDING my center console.

To each his own...I think this thread proves that.

Each person including the originator has made good points.

But I can really relate to Choc's statement about the efficiency of his 12 foot paddle kayak. I have and will continue to catch more fish in my 12 foot Ultimate paddle kayak than my other two fishing kayaks. The reason is simple. It's the lightest in weight and the easiest for me to transport from my garage to my vehicle and at the launch.

Really large fishing kayaks border on being boats. And sometimes with an array of accessories we try to turn them into boats. At some point they cross the line to where a trailered Jon boat would be just as practical and even less costly. But again, to each his own. The important thing is that our kayaks give us access to waters large and and small, deep and shallow. They allow us to follow the fish exceedingly well. That's their real benefit, even if some are beasts on land.
