  • Homeport Farm Park Ribbon Cutting Wednesday June 20 2018 3 pm

    Hello all,

The ribbon cutting for Homeport Farm Park just south of Annapolis MD is set for Wednesday June 20 2018 at 3 pm.

    Homeport Farm Park website: http://www.aacounty.org/locations-an...port-farm-park

You are all invited. Bring your yaks and your family and your friends! Get there plenty early to unload your boat and get ready to launch.

    Let's make a BIG splash.

Can someone refresh my memory about launching there? I have fished there 3 or 4 times and enjoyed it. Access has changed and improved each time I have been there. I seem to remember someone here indicating that a permit is now required, or some access code needed for a gate?
Also, I trailer my kayaks on a utility trailer. Is it permissible for me to park my trailer there with my Jeep as I have done in the past?
      Thanks,
      13

At least at first it looks like there will be a gate with a combo lock like at Spriggs.

I'll ask about your utility trailer. Do you use your trailer just to get your yaks to the park or do you also use it to get your yaks to the water from the parking lot? I think there is a barrier at the top of the Homeport launch path to stop people from driving down the pedestrian path to the water so you couldn't back your Jeep and trailer down to the water to load and unload.

Thanks Lisa. I just use the trailer to carry the kayaks. I don't back the trailer into the water. I have kayak carts to roll the kayak up and down the path to the creek. If they have paved the path, that's going to make it so much easier!

The 3 or 4 times I've been there I've really enjoyed it. The place wasn't crowded and I caught fish. I'm pretty sure each time I went, it was in September or October.

It's certainly a unique park. I can understand why the neighborhood there is concerned about ruining the area.

Well, that neighborhood wouldn't be there if it wasn't for the park. The developer only got permission to build that subdivision by donating 25 acres for Homeport Farm Park. No park, no houses. As far as the lock, it doesn't improve safety (police can't drive in and patrol the park) and serves only to inconvenience park users.

My local non water access public park has a picnic pavilion, playground, tennis courts, basketball courts, a paved trail and does not even have a gate, let alone a locked gate. But the minute a park with water access opens, the neighbors argue for a locked gate to keep the water from running away. ;(

Lisa, I don't get down that way often, but I just wanted to say thanks for being a super vocal advocate for more/better launches and increased water access in AA county. If it weren't for people like you, a lot of us would have a lot less options when it comes to launching our yaks.

Great news. I can't wait to see the improvements. Thanks for all your efforts in helping us have accessibility to the water. If my schedule lines up, I will be there.

You're welcome, and thanks back to all of you who have helped push this boulder uphill.

Here's the e-invite from Rec & Parks to the Homeport Farm Park ribbon cutting:

                      http://events.r20.constantcontact.co...gf5ry5b383b9ff

Please sign up and share around - this event is for everyone. You don't need to sign up to go, but it does help Rec & Parks know how many bottles of water to bring

I parked outside the gate and walked into Homeport yesterday. It's gorgeous. The wet spring really gave the sod time to settle in, the beach erosion is repaired and the portapotties are in place.

Good news! The Homeport Farm Park gate will open at 10 am on Wednesday June 20 2018. Launch your yak and enjoy a paddle before the 3 pm ribbon cutting.

Hope there's still a parking spot for me when I get there sometime after 1 pm.

                              Lisa,

Do you know if the festivities will be at the parking area or near the water?
