I haven't been back to Homeport since the ribbon cutting, but to answer your question, there are indeed fish in Church Creek.
I caught this guy and 5 more like him in short order before the ceremony directly across the creek from the launch:

In years' past my buddies and I have caught stripers near the mouth of the creek.
Here's a photo of your group heading out to the South River:

I tried to keep up in my Ultimate 12 but it was hopeless. You folks scoot along pretty fast in those long boats.
