Assateague Island Fishing

The fam is going to Assateague Island in a couple of weeks and we will be bringing our kayaks. I was thinking of trying to fish in the bay and was wondering what I could expect for species and the best techniques at this time of year. I would love to have an opportunity at some puppy drum, but I am open to anything. I have medium heavy rods/reels to bring that I use for LMB and Pike here in PA. I am trying to decide if it would be worth it to get the gear salty.

I have fished there a few times by boat. Puppy drum are possible but I have not caught any there yet. The main species to fish for is flounder. A jig tipped with gulp or minnows on a bottom rig will work for them. There also may be some small blues, sea bass and croakers around.

I haven't heard of any pups in OC this year, but its always a possibility. Flounder fishing in the bay behind AI has been good this year, so its always worth bringing your gear. Ill attach a few of my previous threads and others I can find to aid in your research. There is probably some useful info in there somewhere.
