  • PLO daytime fishing

Have relatives visiting, taking them to PLO for the day.
Is daytime fishing do-able? or are we wasting our time?

They just want to have fun and catch fish,, whats the best approach.

    Many thanks for any tips.

I'd fish for schoolies off the point where the tide runs over the bar. For croaker I'd fish between the causeway and the pier (I always use a spook).....have a pole with a spoon on for schools of little bluefish coming through

You can launch from the park store for free. If you go on the weekend PLO fills up very early in the summer. In addition to what Kevin mentioned I like fishing the rip rap in the inlet as well as the outside edge of the northern riprap wall at the inlet.

              Just got back in,
              Bring Bug Spray!
Did I say bring bug spray??, Bring Bug spray. As soon as I stepped out of the truck the little black biting flies were on us, and they hurt.

Anyhow, we had a diverse group, anywhere from 1 year old to 55 years old, some wanted to cookout, some beach, some crab, some fish.
Don't bring a dog, you are restricted to one small area.
              The store was closed,,, why?
              The crabbing piers where closed,
Some went to the Beach on the lake Conoy side,,, some went to the fishing pier.
The Lake Conoy side was way to windy to even think about a kayak.
after setting up the wifes/inlaws on the pier (crabbing/fishing)
4 of us launched bayside at the Causeway and drifted out a good 3/4-1 mile.
We were each fishing 2 rods - shrimp on a bottom rig and a 4" white gulp grub on a white jig head.
We had 1 grub tail bitten off, that was it.
on the pier they caught 7 crabs (traps) and 2 small spot.
              This was fishing 11:00 - 5:30

If I ever fish this again, it will be in a center console, 40-60HP, and good electronics

It is a challenge...but there are some really good spots at PLO, well, not exactly at, but in close proximity...the challenge of wind and tides can be really difficult in plastic boats...gotta have moving water at PLO...slack tide is not very productive nor is dead high tide..unless you are back in the marsh in Lake Conoy fishing for reds and white perch...and bug spray is always needed...until cold weather...

Wow, I had no idea there were that many common spots people visit. I'm also a little embarrassed that I didn't know PLO. I attended St. Mary's College which is right up the road from there.
