  • Bull redfish

Caught my first bull red on trip to Louisiana this weekend. The water in the marsh was super low due to moderate to high winds for two days. Having Navionics on my depth finder really helped me find those deeper holes and ditches the fish were traveling through.

      Excellent catch.

      Congratulations.

I see a popping cork on your rod. I used that technique last November in TX. Very effective but also very tiring.

WOW thats a lunker. I wish I could have taken my PA14 down to LA this past Feb!

Did you travel with, or rent yaks while down there?

          Congrats! That's a good-looking fish.

What did you use, live or artificial bait?

I’ve had some great success with it.

I took my boat with me, but you can rent a Hobie for 75.00 a day at PAC Kayak Rentals.

Effective combination. Good choice (as proven by your catch).
Gulp! baits are a great option when fish are finicky and ignore traditional artificial baits or you don’t want the hassle of finding (and keeping) live bait.

My first inshore kayak trip was in April to Port St. Joe, Florida. I spent the first couple of days trying to figure out what the hell I was doing wrong, lol. I ended up tying on a popping cork and a Gulp, to throw at the deeper holes I was seeing in the grass beds. After that, it was on!

Port St Joe is a nice place. Secluded. Not a lot of fishing pressure. Hope the recent hurricane didn’t set it back too much.

I hope they are able to recover quickly and keep their identity as the “Forgotten Coast”

One thing hurricanes do is reset the inshore/underwater landscape.
That piece of structure you had good numbers for last month is no longer there after a strong storm. You have to start all over again. It resets the playing field amongst the anglers.
