It’s been some time!

As the title says it’s been some time since I’ve posted but it’s really been a bad year for fishing. It seems like everyday I’ve been off it has rained or the wind has been bad. I’m pretty sure I’ve only caught 10 fish all year! So long story short I’ve sold my beloved trident 13 in search for a day touring kayak to just get out and explore more. I ended up picking up a perception Carolina 16. My average speed now is 4.5mph and able to push it out to 6 for short sprints. She is fast and I’m excited to explore new water. And I will always have a rod with me. So I know many fish from sit on tops as I have in the past. But has anyone rigged or used a day touring style yak for fishing? I’d love to hear stories of what worked or didn’t. There really isn’t much info on this, as most just strap a rod under the front bungie cords. I will also be looking for a small yak to float the monocacy this spring. So how’s everyone’s year!? And what are your goals for 2019? Good to be back!

I rigged my whitewater kayak with a couple rod holders before I knew any better, but if it works it ain’t stupid. Try and mount in an area with stiffer plastic and use a backing plate, you’ll be good to go.

My goal for 2019 is to start cultivating my own mushrooms and kill a turkey in the spring. The fishing in NC isn’t that great except for the coast, so hopefully I’ll make a few trips to the OBX too.

Nice looking boat.

It's amazing the additional speed supplied by a few extra feet of length on a kayak.

I learned that last year when paddling my Tempest 170. I also cruise at 4.5 mph, rather effortlessly too once I get it moving. I've never fished from it. I think I'll reserve that for my other boats.

I want more consistent fishing locally for 2019 than 2018 has provided. Also I would like to make that western trout trip that I mentioned here recently.

But I'll leave raising mushrooms and killing turkeys to John and Safeway.

Mark, you don’t have to cultivate mushrooms. Nature has a full bounty of things to forage nearly year round. It’s prime time for hen of the woods and lions mane, and nearly impossible to false identity.
