From the Facebook page of the Chesapeake Bay Kayak Angler's page it looks like White Perch were biting- but the fact that no one has posted a bunch of pictures is telling...fishing was good, but catching maybe not-Last edited by ronaultmtd; 09-11-2011, 09:00 AM."Lady Luck" 2016 Red Hibiscus Hobie Outback, Lowrance Hook2-7TS

Man fishing for rockfish sucked yesterday. Water had a nice brown hue to it, leaving a ring around my yak like a dirty bath tub. As one could expect after the rain, the current had a strong outflow on the outgoing tide in the morning. It took forever to make it to the bridge. I jigged and trolled as did many others. Two legal stripers were caught. One was unfortunately disqualified :-(
Just before calling it quits, I decided to fish near shore for white perch. I did that. I won the EK division with a 12 1/4" white perch. I got into a lot of nice perch there.Last edited by MetroMan; 09-11-2011, 09:10 AM.<insert witty comment here>

Tournament was great, everyone had a good time, although fishing was tough. White perch were biting, rockfish were there but not active because of the freshwater and water temp was 10 degrees cooler then normal.
Bay was calm, wind was light, sun was shining most of the day.
Camp Wright was a great venue, they had the beach launch cleaned up and ready after all the rain and hurricance Irene. Food was good and it was really nice having bathrooms and showers right at the camp. Next year we will have use of the swimming pool. Hope to make this a family thing, tenting, cabins, swimming and outlet shopping if your family joins you.
Because we couldn't drive vehicles down to the beach with all the rain we also allowed launching at Matapeake State Park
Winning rockfish was 19.5", caught in shallow water, 3rd piling from eastern shore, south span.
Biggest suprise was a keeper flounder caught by Jimbo.
Winning white perch were 12" for angler powered and 12.25" for electric.
Winning bluefush was 11.75"
We had great support from local shops, Easton Cycle and Sport, Kent Island Kayaks, Backyard Boats. Appomattox River Company.
Other major sponsors included Hobie Kayak Fishing, Jackson Kayak, Yakattack, Yak-gear, Kayak Angler Pro Shops, Ruthless Kayak Fishing.
Captain Luke purchased the Coosa kayak donated by Jackson Kayak and ARC.
All and all it was very successful with over $2500 raised for Charity

If you scraped a sample from the ring around your kayak and had a chemical analysis what do you think that information would contain?"Lady Luck" 2016 Red Hibiscus Hobie Outback, Lowrance Hook2-7TS

To all those who couldn't make it, I would say you missed out on a great tournament, but you don't have to feel bad about missing out on great fishing. It was tough out there and the water was not pretty. I was very impressed with how well the tournament was organized and the level of sponsor participation. I was lucky enough to land the 19.5'' rockfish and took home a gift certificate to Kent Island Kayak along with an Okuma kayak rod and some other goodies from the raffle. I would like to say a big thank you to everyone at CBKF and all of the sponsors.
Here's a picture on the rockfish. The fish unfortunately was covered in legions (the picture doesn't even show a lot of them) which I guess were probably formed before the recent rains, but I can't imagine what is being washed into the bay now is helping the problem.Attached Files

Congratulations- tough fishing under the circumstances you guys had- high stained water is always challenging and sometimes dangerous with currents, debris and pollution- way to go-"Lady Luck" 2016 Red Hibiscus Hobie Outback, Lowrance Hook2-7TS

I have tons of pictures and we also had a professional photographer, a friend of Redfish, who was taking pictures of the kayakers out of the water from a chase boat....yes, I said a chase boat. John Foley acquired a nice boat to follow the kayakers around to get great pictures and to help any kayakers in distress. How many tournaments can ssay that they have that!..Even though I did not kayak during the tournament, myself and everyone had a freat time. We even had a projector running in our hall displaying a screen saver of dozens of pictures from our formal and informal Meet and Greets. As for the fishing, it was slow due to all the conditions mentioned before. I was lucky to get to throw a rod out from shore with bloodworms and nailed 30 white perch and 25 baby rockfish. I have never seen so many baby rockfish before. Hopefully, it is a good sign for the futue. More to follow later.....
