  • rock fish regulations

    Hi guys,

Quite confused on the regulations. Am I allow to fish for rockfish at Fredericksburg, VA now? It's my understanding since its north of Rt 360, all i need is VA fresh water license? Will they honor my MD tidal fishing license? I had thought it's now closed season which means cannot fish or target rockfish at all. However some say you still can fish but cannot keep.

So whats the law say and please provide link if possible.

Your Maryland saltwater license is good in Virginia saltwater provided you register in Virginia. Don’t recall the site but it’s free to do. You will need a Virginia freshwater license in the freshwater portions of the river. Don’t know about Virginia rockfish regulations. If your fishing the Rappahanock in Fredericksburg why not target shad and don’t worry about those spring rockfish.

+1 with Mike's information and it's VFIP (http://www.mrc.virginia.gov/regulati...licensing.shtm). This link has the boundaries you asked about (http://www.mrc.virginia.gov/mrc_license_boundaries.shtm).

I have not seen anything about not targeting striper and a lot of people frequently do C&R them in VA beach currently. There is a proposed VMRC emergency regulation to eliminate the spring trophy harvesting season that was emailed out 02 April.

I would support Maryland cancelling the Trophy keeper season as well...the entire Notheast region should have uniform regulations for migratory fish species that spawn in one area and travel to another so as not to punish one state’s anglers and reward another...
