Don't have a lot of details at this point, trying to find out some more, but I just received a text message with this picture:

The text said, "Caught in the Bush River in Edgewood from shore."

That area is mainly a bunch of shallow flats, so I'm looking forward to getting the yak out there soon and helping control the snakehead population while putting some dinner on the table! Anyone else hear any news of snakes in that area? I know Blackwater has them, and North East/ Susquehanna, so I'm sure they can be found everywhere in between!

I've seen many reports on the Snakeheadlife Facebook group about SH being caught in the Middle River area. I plan on getting out there a few times after work to poke my nose around and see what's going on. I'd imagine they'll become less shy as the water warms, as is their M.O.

Right on! I'll probably do some initial checks in coming weeks, but I'd imagine they'll be easier to catch once the summer heats up. Snakeheads are like solar panels, they work best when it's hot out haha

Yeah, I know it's heating up down Blackwater, and I'm waiting for a nice weekend to get down there, but someplace to tear them up closer to home would be nice!

Any tips or locations to yak for them down at Blackwater? Ive never been, and my cousin wants to go.

Don't go where I went! Reportedly, they have been doing really well of the Key Wallace Bridge, and the launch at Shorters Wharf. I've also been told the Egypt Rd Launch can lead to nice catches. Beyond that, I'm trying to learn too!!

Its surprising they are this abundant being super early in the year. Typically, I only actively target them June thru August. They are a beast to catch, taste AWESOME when cooked, and help out DNR my eradicating. PS, C&R is also allowed if released at same time / location of catch/capture. Once you land a 30+ incher, you will be HOOKED.

I saw a report of a snake head caught at flying point on the Bush in Edgewood. I know of a couple caught around Concord Point and Swan Harbor this year too. I imagine in the future they will be as common as regular gamefish.

Largemouth are native to the eastern US. And snakehead multiply MUCH faster and do much more damage to an environment then the LMB.

Not claiming to be an expert on Bass, but my understanding is they are NOT native to the Potomac river basin, but introduced in the 1800's.

What "damage" have the SH done to the environment? besides make some areas that had too poor of a water quality to hold decent fish, now holds a good game fish.

Did not realize that we were referring to the PRB specifically. My bad on the bass.

Also at this point they are so well established and multiply so much it is near impossible to “kill off” the population.
