Fishing with Soft crab

I have some soft crabs in the freezer (that I was planning to eat), and have heard good things about using them for bait. Lately, I've become more of a lure fisherman, but I'm thinking of giving softcrab a try on sunday. I've never used it and I'm looking for some tips on how to use it and what rig is best...

If I had soft crabs, I'd be eating them I'm sure they work, but so does a cheap bag of frozen shrimp from walmart. It's a natural bait that fish in the area will definitely encounter, so if you don't mind being down a soft crab, bring one out sunday and see how it works.

Cut in quarters and use a fish finder rig on the bottom- I hook the crab through the legs portion of the body and use a rubber band to hold the rest on the hook- I set the reel in free spool with the clicker on-

i used to put the soft crab quarter'd into pantyhoes to hold them intact and to help eliminate nibbling fish like WP from destroying them while wating for a rock. FF rig is the way to go.

hmm... this sounds like too much work...lol! Maybe I will just keep them for the deep fryer...
I guess I'll decide tomorrow night if I want to bring any on sunday.

It sounds a lot like fishing with chicken livers. The pantyhose tip is a good idea.

i use rigging floss, tie a slip knot to hold the crab section on to the hook. this works well when casting just hold the rod because as soon as it hits the bottom something is going to eat it do they sell panty hose at anglers?
