  • Bad News on Beverly Triton Beach Park, Need Email to County Council ASAP

    Hello all,

Bad news on Beverly Triton Beach Park and maybe some good news about the County Council. Read this article on County Executive Steuart Pittman's position on Beverly Triton Beach Park: https://www.capitalgazette.com/news/...530-story.html and see if you agree. CE Pittman's reported stance, effectively giving the neighbors veto power over public access to a public park, disappointed me.

And read all the way to the end of the article. The Beverly Beach Community Association (BBCA) rents 1/3 of the beach in Beverly Triton Beach Park, a public park, for $1 a year for its exclusive use as a community swimming beach. The BBCA also rents a county-owned boat ramp and marina with a parking lot and 22 boat slips on Cadle Creek for $1,000 a year for exclusive use as its community boat ramp and marina. I can't make this stuff up.

The good news is that we have traction with the County Council because of all the emails we have all sent. It is time to double down and email the County Council again ASAP. The council starts making budget cuts this Monday 6/10/19 and the budget must be struck by 6/14/19. There are 7 County Councilmembers, here is how to find yours: https://www.aacounty.org/departments...cil/index.html

If you live in Anne Arundel County (because right now it's a family fight) please email your county council member. If you don't live in Anne Arundel County, please get someone who does to email his or her county council member (and go ahead and email the County Council anyway, what the heck).

Please tell your council member what getting to the water means to you, how unfair it is that Beverly Beach gets a $1 beach and the county hasn't made the improvements needed for official public swimming in the rest of the park, what moving the drop off zone from 75 feet to the water to 250 feet to the water means in terms of getting a fishing yak to the water, your story in your words. Please include your first and last names and snail mail address so they know you are a real person and a real constituent. Again, how to find your County Councilmember: https://www.aacounty.org/departments...cil/index.html

We are all paying for this park and we must all be able to use it in safety and comfort.

    Thanks

    Lisa

Thanks Lisa for continuing the fight.

It's an uphill battle for sure.

But I wrote again to my council rep urging him to join his colleagues in demanding a reasonable approach to BTB improvements that creates spaces for all county residents to enjoy the site.

I urge others here to do the same.

      Thank you,
      Mark

I'm not a resident, so I can't help in this portion of your fight, but reading this as an outsider it is difficult to believe how this stuff happens. Public land, paid for by local taxpayers, backroom deals, etc. No wonder people are cynical about politicians. Good luck in your fight for access.
