HOT DEADLINE: Sunday August 4 2019 Last Chance for Water Access Input in the 2040 General Development Plan, which will guide planning in the county until 2040

    Good morning all,

TOMORROW, Sunday, August 4, 2019 is the last chance for public water access input in the Anne Arundel 2040 General Development Plan (GDP). If you live in Anne Arundel County or if you own property in Anne Arundel County, it is really important for you to take a couple of minutes and do the online GDP survey.

The 2040 GDP will guide Anne Arundel County policy until 2040. Speak up now or risk biting your tongue for 21 years!

The water access section is hidden deep in the very long 2040 GDP Survey. We'll walk you through how to find it in the survey so you can ask for more public water access in the county. There are boxes to be checked and an additional comment section. Asking for more public water access in the comment section is critical. Please ask for more public water access at the 2040 GDP Survey link below and ask others in your community to do likewise.

Here is the 2040 GDP Survey: https://aacounty-plan2040.metroquest.com/

    Go to:
    Tab 4: Development/Redev't Services

    And then go to:
    Tab: Other Community Needs

Lower Section: What else is needed in the County?

    New parks/recreation facilities - check
Access to water and green space - check

The go back to Tab: Additional Comments

Section: Do you have other comments about needs in the County?

Please ask for what *you* want in more public water access in the county. Remember that public swimming beaches and public boat ramps are the leading public water access deficits in Anne Arundel County. And even is you don't swim or own a trailered boat, once the county spends money on a public swimming beach or public boat ramp in a county park, it will be very hard to close that public park to the general public in the future.

Go to Tab 5: Wrap Up and answer the questions about age, email, community and zip code.

Hit the "Submit Final Questions" so your answers will actually be submitted and included.

Again, the deadline is TOMORROW Sunday, August 4, 2019. Please take the time to answer the 2040 Survey and ask others in your community to do the same.

    Thank you

    Lisa

If you live in AA County, PLEASE take 3 minutes to fill out the county online 2040 GDP survey, linked in a post above I made yesterday. It's one of those geeky things that's not flashy at all but determines the county's planning policy for the next 21 years. Getting pro-water access input is critical. I'm disappointed that the water access section is buried so deep in the survey that hardly anyone will find it.

    It's due TODAY Sunday August 4 2019.

    Thank you

    Lisa

Earlier this summer, at Lisa's request, I was fortunate enough to be included in a gathering of county citizens concerned about public water access for an audience with County Executive Pittman. Mr. Pittman brought the county's Director of Recreation and Parks, Mr. Rick Anthony, to that meeting. Mr. Anthony made a strong point to those present that their voices matter very much in the county's parks and planning process. In effect he said to keep those voices active; that our opinions weigh very heavily in his department's decisions. After the meeting, I thanked Mr. Anthony personally for the strides the county has made in providing public access to our waters. I told him I appreciated what he said at the meeting about the value of our opinions.

I weighed in on this most recent opportunity as I have also done on other occasions. It's not difficult to communicate with county officials via the internet. This particular survey was exceedingly easy.

I also thank Lisa for keeping the matter at the forefront on this forum.
