Fished 2 days in a row, once by kayak in the Severn, then by boat on Main Bay the night after (last night).
Fished the Severn river Monday morning by kayak, got about 25 throwback striper from 6-18", reminded me of a productive fall day from 2017 (2018 was terrible overall for that sort of fishing around here). It was a fairly windy morning and I launched pre-dawn trying to get on the topwater and jig bite, but couldn't buy a bite until sunrise. Then I found some birds and stuck with diving birds for a few hours, trolling all around them, and a small paddletail was the hot ticket until I decided to pack it in. It was nice to catch over 10 striper in a couple hours, it's been a while since I did that by kayak, probably since last fall maybe. I've found myself traveling to find fish, and have certainly caught a variety over the past year or so, but it was nice to get some fish closer to home.
Last night I fished with a few new friends who write/edit a local fishing magazine, and it was much the same story, albeit in the Main Bay. Lots of small throwback striper, zooming from flock to flock of diving birds on a boat this time. Very different means of fishing but similar tackle and a really fun and beautiful night out on the water. Made some new friends and fished on a boat with Matt (yakman####) for the first time, we both remarked how "it would take us like a half hour to get here, as opposed to 5 mins" and "we would've just stuck with that flock all day." It was nice to experience the range and speed that a boat offers, being able to jump from spot to spot over a much larger area is very nice, as is the ability to walk around haha.
