I'm taking my little one fishing on Saturday. She wants a striper...bad. She says she wants to eat it. I've explained to her that we have to kill it to eat it. She "says" she's fine with it. I haven't harvested a striper this year but would take one to teach her the lesson of respect for nature and sacrifice. Have you dealt with this withlyour kids yet? Best practices to explain the taking of life to provide food?

My kids have been eating wild game and fish since they've had teeth and they always are eager to see what Daddy has brought home after hunting or fishing. The biggest thing for me is these animals had a chance to live and flourish in the wild rather then live in a cage or pen like the store bought food. I always say thank you to the fish or other animal for providing the food. Also, if the kids are along, I usually will ask if they'd like to let it go or keep it. Your daughter may change her mind in the moment and that should be totally fine.
