  • Urgent Advocacy: Beverly Triton, Water Access FY21 AA County Budget, Quiet Waters

    Hello all,

Please fire up your email and do some water access advocacy for Beverly Triton construction, the FY21 budget and the immediate opening of the new Quiet Waters extension to the general public who paid for it.

    1) The Beverly Triton improvements were funded in the FY20 (current) budget. The construction schedule is now three going on four months behind. Please email your County Councilperson - info on that below - and County Executive Steuart Pittman and ask them when construction will *start* and when the project will be *done*. The park obstructionists are still trying to stall out the improvements that will make public access permanent. Time for the county to get this project *done*.

    2) The FY21 (begins 7/1/20) Anne Arundel County budget is being prepared now. Please email your County Councilperson and CE Pittman and demand funding in the budget for public boat ramps, public swimming beaches, public fishing piers, public kayak launches!. Especially to address the crummy access on the Magothy, Severn and South Rivers. Tell them what the water means to you! There are 5 Budget Town Halls left and if you can come to one and speak for the allotted two minutes it makes a huge impact.

    3) The county just spent 8 million dollars for 19 acres to expand Quiet Waters Park. There is no plan, as usual, for opening the expanded park, even though it's a matter of opening a gate and letting people in, like Homeport and Beverly Triton. The Quiet Waters expansion makes easy access to the South River from Quiet Waters Park possible. Demand that the Quiet Waters expansion be opened immediately to the public so it doesn't turn into another Beverly Triton.

3 topics, 1 email, 3 emails, your choice, the price of email these days. Please speak up! Info on email addresses for elected officials and Budget Town Hall schedule below.

    Thanks,

    Lisa

FIRST: Email your County Council member and County Executive Steuart Pittman. Here’s how:

SECOND: Attend a Budget Town Hall and speak up for water access! The schedule for the 2020 Budget Town Halls is at the end of this message.

You can attend any Budget Town Hall; you are not restricted to your home district town hall.

You have paid for years to acquire public waterfront properties and clean up adjacent waterways. It’s well past time for you to have safe, convenient public water access.

      You're welcome and backatcha.

People speaking at each of the seven Budget Town Halls has an extraordinary impact. Especially in this digital age, showing up at an inconvenient place at an inconvenient time means that constituents care and are committed.

I spoke at the District 1 Budget Town Hall last week. 3 people spoke at the District 6 Budget Town Hall last Thursday. The District 2 Budget Town Hall is tonight and I hope at least 1 person speaks (I am going, but not to speak). You do not have to attend the Budget Town Hall in your "home district" - you can attend the one most convenient to you.

And please email your County Councilperson and County Executive Pittman. A real email from a real constituent makes a bigger impact than 100 names on a petition.

      Thanks!

      Lisa

        Hello all,

There are 4 Budget Town Halls left for the next Anne Arundel County budget. Please attend one if you can and please email County Executive Steuart Pittman and your County Councilperson with your demand for public water access funding in the upcoming Anne Arundel County budget.

*Dates & Times & email addresses upthread*

I spoke at the District 1 Budget Town Hall. Three people spoke at the District 6 Budget Town Hall. No one spoke at the District 2 Budget Town Hall.

Showing up and speaking makes an enormous impact. You can attend any Budget Town Hall, you are not limited to your home District.

The District 3 Budget Town Hall is tonight / Wednesday, 1/22/20, from 6 to 7:30 pm at Northeast High School Auditorium on Duvall Highway in Pasadena. I'll be there, but not speak.
The District 4 Budget Town Hall is tomorrow / Thursday, 1/23/20, from 6 - 7:30 pm at Arundel High School Cafeteria in Gambrills.

The District 7 and District 5 Budget Town Halls are next week. If you can't make your home District and are willing to travel to Southern High School, please try to make the District 7 Budget Town Hall on Tuesday, 1/28/20. I have an alert that the park obstructionists are going to turn out in force for the District 7 Budget Town Hall.

        Hope to see you tonight.

        Thanks

        Lisa

I hope to see some of you at the District 4 Budget Town Hall tonight, and at the District 7 and District 5 Budget Town Halls next week. You can attend any Budget Town Hall, you are not limited to your home district.

Water access attendance has been very light - no one spoke for public water access funding at the District 2 Budget Town Hall.

This is a more extended process under this County Executive - he holds 7 Budget Town Halls, the council holds 2 Budget Hearings and it's hard to cover all of them.

Anyway, please try and attend one of the 3 remaining Budget Town Halls and speak up for public water access funding.

          Thanks

          Lisa
