Hi from Lewes, De. Fairly new to kayak fishing having bought my Outback in 2016. I've been fishing the ponds and tidal waters around Lewes with a few side trips to Blackwater and Kent Island area. I do ok on freshwater having grown up fishing every weekend on the lakes and rivers in Northeastern PA. My learning curve is pretty steep when it comes to saltwater. I'm still learning species 😄. I'm retired so mostly fish during the week especially during the summer months. Looking forward sharing ideas with fellow members and also upping my saltwater game. Hit me up if you're in the area for an outing.

Hey Frac,
Welcome to the group! Lewes is a fantastic place to be based...I started road tripping down there last summer from my home in Baltimore and had a blast chasing stripers and flounder in the area. I know there are a handful of guys here who fish Cape Henlopen yearly, and I'm sure they'd love to help you up your saltwater game. A good saltwater starting point is casting or trolling a jighead with a paddletail on it, pretty much anything will chomp that! Check out JigtheBay.com for a selection of the best locally sourced saltwater tackle. It'll give you a good idea of what works without having to stare down shelves and shelves of baits wondering which to pick. There's a wealth of knowledge here, so never hesitate to ask around! Welcome!Matt

Frac,
Welcome to the forum!
I really enjoy the DE ponds but I cannot offer advice on DE saltwater. However, as Matt said, others here fish DE tidal waters regularly. Some target big blues in May off Cape Henlopen. You've found the right place to increase your kayak fishing knowledge.Mark

Hey Frank,
The Lewes canal is a great paddle. I launched there this past summer and had a good time, aside from the boat traffic, which I suppose is to be expected.
It's actually a snakehead in my photo, although I would love to get on a muskie. I think they are also in the upper Potomac or Patapsco, I don't remember which,. Absolutely a bucket list fish for me as well. I follow Today's Angler on YouTube and they go for muskie often and do quite well.Matt

Funny, guess I should have zoomed in on the pic. I follow fishing PA. with Ryan Read. He lands a good number of muskies and is great sharing info on what he used and techniques. The rivers and lakes he fishes are all within a nice weekend outing from Lewes.Frank
