  • May weather and fishing

After an abnormally warm winter, we are experiencing an abnormally cold, wet spring. The water temperature is averaging high fifties-low sixties in our area...the relaxing of public ramp and public park closures will allow more opportunities and locations for practicing “social distancing” and kayak fishing. A few speckled trout and an occasional tailor bluefish have shown up, but it is mostly 16-24 inch striped bass in the flats and creeks in southern Maryland...blue catfish are plentiful in all local waters...still waiting on the big white perch to invade the shallows and commercial fishermen have medium size croakers mixed in their catch around Cobb Island...but a 22 inch striper on 10# test light spinning gear gives a good fight and pulls some drag...and it is good salt water stress relief therapy...

Glad you were able to find fish in this weird May. Brought the yak up to Jersey yesterday with the anticipation of getting some blues, but only sung the blues. It was freezing, raining and windy. All the back bays were mud. Didn’t even launch, just casted from the sod banks. All you can do is keep trying.
